Kevin O'Connor signs deal with Cork City until end of season

Kevin O'Connor has returned to Cork City for a third spell after signing a deal until the end of the season.

And Rebels boss Neale Fenn is hoping to add two more players from outside the league.

O’Connor’s contract at Preston North End expired last month, so the Wexford man was a free agent.

He was with the Rebels under John Caulfield between 2015 and 2017 before signing for the Championship club.

But he returned to Turner’s Cross on loan last year and then had a brief loan stint with Waterford this season.

O’Connor said: “I’m delighted to be back. Cork is a second home to me, and it’s good to see a few old faces here.

“There are only 13 games left so it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be a battle, but it’s the same for everybody in the league.

“We have to take it game by game and we need to try and maximise the amount of points we can take, so we want to hit the ground running.”

City boss Fenn added experience earlier this week when Graham Cummins returned to Leeside.

And of O’Connor, Fenn said: “Kevin knows the club well and he knows the league well, which was important to me.

“We needed that experience in such a young group, so I’m delighted that he agreed to come here.”

And Fenn hopes to make even more signings before City’s first league game back at home to Bohemians on August 2.

“We have a couple of targets that we’re working on from outside the league, so hopefully we’ll be able to pull those off and add a little more quality.”
