Kevin O'Connor bidding to use Cork City's Europa League campaign as shop window with Preston release looming

Cork City's Europa League campaign will act as a shop window for Kevin O'Connor's talents as he's set to leave Preston North End next summer.

O'Connor, 24, is on an extended loan at former club until the end of the season and wasn't eligible to play in last night's friendly fixture between the clubs at Turner's Cross.

The defender will play a key role in Thursday's home leg of the first qualifying round tie against Progres.

O'Connor hasn't featured for the Deepdale club since just after Christmas.

“Obviously the way it’s gone lately then I don’t think it’ll be renewed,” he remarked.

“If there’s opportunities there then I have to try and take them. If it comes that I need to leave and find another club then 100 percent, that’s what I’ll do.

“That’s why you put yourself in the shop window and hopefully there’s then teams that are willing to take a gamble.

“I just want to concentrate on the football and being happy because that is when you bring the bear out of yourself.

"In 18 months I didn’t play too much football and that takes its toll on you and you lose a bit of confidence, so it’s about getting back on the pitch and playing well and see where we go from there".
