Kevin O’Connell provides injury updates from Sunday’s win

The Minnesota Vikings scrounged out a win in Atlanta over the Falcons by a score of 31-28 but they didn’t come out of it unscathed.

Throughout the game, they batted adversity with injuries across the board, especially at the skill positions. In his Monday press conference, head coach Kevin O’Connell provided injury updates on multiple Vikings, including three of the best players on the roster.

Hall is in the concussion protocol and will be evaluated throughout the week. It’s worth noting that only Brock Purdy has played the week after being placed in the concussion protocol.

WR K.J. Osborn

Considering how bad things looked in real-time, seeing Osborn only in the concussion protocol is a big win. As mentioned above, only Purdy has played the week after being placed in the protocol and with how the Vikings unit played and Jalen Nailor’s potential return, it might be wise to keep him out.

LT Christian Darrisaw

Darrisaw didn’t suit up against the Falcons due to a groin injury and it’s the second game this season that he didn’t end up playing in. O’Connell said that Darrisaw would likely be limited this week and it’s not impossible that he misses Sunday’s game against the Saints.

ILB Brian Asamoah II

Asamoah has missed the last two games with an ankle injury and will likely be limited this week per O’Connell. Asamoah has been a backup player this season but a stalwart on special teams.

TE T.J. Hockenson

Hockenson appeared to have injured his ribs during Sunday’s game against the Falcons. O’Connell said that Hockenson will likely be limited, but is hopeful that he plays against the Saints.

QB Nick Mullens

Mullens is eligible to come off of injured reserve this week and there is a chance that the Vikings open his practice window. O’Connell didn’t know if the Vikings would make that move, but it’s on the table right now.

WR Justin Jefferson

The big question looming in the building right now is with Jefferson. He has missed the last four games but is eligible to come off of injured reserve now. There are still tests that need to be done to make sure that he is good to go, but adding him to that receiving corps would be a massive boost.

It’s worth noting that O’Connell said that “it’s possible” that the Vikings open up his practice window.

RB Cam Akers

The worst was realized, as Akers did rupture his Achilles tendon, the second time he’s suffered the injury in the last 27 months.
