Kevin O’Connell avoiding Redskins head coaching questions

For now, Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell has expertly weaved his way through questions about whether he could be the next head coach.

O’Connell, under the supervision of interim coach Bill Callahan, had to take a question on the topic Friday, per Craig Hoffman of 106.7 The Fan:

“When asked about the possibility of being the head coach in Washington, O’Connell says he’s focused on the game Sunday. He says he’s used to change as a player and a coach. Whatever comes Monday, he’ll deal with then.”

O’Connell is viewed as one of the younger fast risers in offensive football today alongside the likes of Sean McVay and others. Most recently, he’s slowly helped along rookie passer Dwayne Haskins.

Whether Redskins owner Dan Snyder elects to promote from within is hard to say. The Redskins have exit meetings and other season-ending details Monday, though we don’t know who will be leading the final press conference.

Odds are Snyder won’t have a plan in place already for the long-term outlook — but it seems likely O’Connell will at least be in the mix.
