Kevin Nolan makes defiant West Ham relegation declaration - just one week after joining

Kevin Nolan insists he has needed just a week to be convinced that West Ham will beat the drop.

The beleaguered Irons are just one a point from safety with last Sunday’s visit to Manchester City rescheduled for next Wednesday, February 19.

David Moyes’ men then go to Liverpool the following Monday.

Ex-West Ham midfielder Nolan - succeeded by Mark Noble as captain - was added to Moyes' backroom staff last week along with former England coach Paul Nevin.

Despite those tough games, a seemingly irreparable breakdown in the relationship between the fans the club’s owners and a widespread belief that they have it all to do, Nolan has no doubt that the club will defy the odds.

"I've seen enough from the lads in training," he said.

"They know the task ahead and this has been the first week where the gaffer has been able to have a real input in what he wants to show so we're hoping we'll be able to see some good, positive stuff.

"We've all been in these situations before, we all know what is needed and we're very confident that we can get there come the end of the season.”

Nolan was a player/manager at Leyton Orient and Notts County after hanging up his boots. Now he wants to learn from Moyes on his return to east London.

“I’m just really looking forward to learning from him too," Nolan said. "He’s a top fella.

“I’ve met him a few times outside of football at dinners and events, so to be able to work with him on a 24/7 basis and have him at your beck-and-call, no disrespect, is such an honour.

“The fact that it’s at West Ham is even better and I’m just really looking forward to getting stuck into it all!”
