Kevin Nisbet opens Hibs contract talks as hitman set for wage hike amid transfer interest

Hibs are reported to have tabled a new contract to Kevin Nisbet in a bid to stave off interest in the frontman.

Nisbet has rarely been far from the transfer headlines throughout his time at Easter Road with his collapsed move to Birmingham in January causing some friction.

Jack Ross initially dropped him from the side but he came around towards the end of the season with important goals against Rangers and Livingston.

Since then he's earned his first Scotland cap and has been named in Steve Clarke's team for the World Cup qualifying triple header next month.

And Hibs are desperate to keep him tied down for the long run.

He has three years to run on his contract but the Daily Record are reporting that the club have shown their faith by opening talks over a new deal already.

They want to up his wages in order to keep him happy as they anticipate more bids in the weeks and months ahead.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Nisbet but are yet to formalise their interest.

Hibs have already lost Christian Doidge to injury and don't want to see Nisbet, who missed their clash with Dundee at the weekend due to illness, walk away at this stage of the window.
