Kevin Nisbet is Celtic transfer target but Hibs will drive a hard bargain for Scotland striker

Kevin Nisbet is wanted by Celtic but the Scotland striker won’t come cheap.

Nisbet finished his first season in the Scottish Premiership as Hibs ’ top scorer and still has three years left to run on his contract at Easter Road.

But the Daily Mail reports that Ange Postecoglou is keen on the former Dunfermline striker in order to bolster his attacking options.

Leigh Griffiths was handed a one-year contract extension on Thursday despite looking like he was on his way out of Celtic Park.

Ironically, that ruled out one option the Hibees may have had to replace Nisbet, who is sure to attract interest from elsewhere this summer.

His form under Jack Ross last season saw him make his Scotland debut and earned a call-up to Steve Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020.

Nisbet scored shortly after coming off the bench against the Nether lands in a warm up match before coming on as a sub in all three of Scotland’s group games against the Czech Republic, England and Croatia respectively.

Hibs knocked back a £3million bid from Birmingham City on deadline day in January, and although the player then handed in a transfer request, he returned to from soon after.

That looks like being a wise move on the club’s part, with Nisbet now an international with tournament experience and likely to command a higher fee.

However, Ross and sporting director Graeme Mathie will be determined to hold onto Nisbet and will only sell if their valuation is met.

Letting him go to a Scottish Premiership rival will be the last thing Hibs want as well. And could see any asking price Celtic would have to pay rise even more steeply.
