Kevin Nisbet could do something special at Euro 2020, says former Scotland striker

Kevin Gallagher reckons Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet could "do something a bit special" at the Euros if he is unleashed by Scotland boss Steve Clarke.

The former Scotland striker, who played at Euro '96, believes the Cambuslang man could become a hero at the tournament, which kicks-off on Friday.

Nisbet has only three caps to his name so far, but netted an impressive strike against Netherlands in a 2-2 draw in last Wednesday's warm-up friendly against Frank de Boer's side.

Gallagher seems to have been impressed with the 24-year-old's form for Hibs this term and believes he could have a bit of magic in his boots up top for Steve Clarke's men.

In a column for The Times , ex-Blackburn Rovers hero Gallagher discussed how the Scotland strikers in the squad compared to those at Euro '96, which included himself, Rangers heroes Ally McCoist and Gordon Durie, as well as former Aberdeen star Scott Booth and then Chelsea forward John Spencer.

And he said: "I do think our attacking quality back at Euro 96 was a bit higher than today - or at least the strikers back then included a few, like me, playing at a high level in England. We were scoring goals regularly in that division.

"There was real attacking quality in the 96 squad, and we had some real experience about us as well.

"McCoist was 33 by then but was still doing it, as we saw with his 20-yarder against Switzerland.

"But these guys today - [Lyndon] Dykes and [Che] Adams - are still very good players. They look very decent to me.

"And you never know when a new hero will emerge.

"Nisbet, having had such a good season with Hibernian, could end up doing something a bit special and attract a lot of attention.

"Looking at our attacking options right now, as a Scotland fan, I think there can be grounds for optimism."

Scotland kick-off their Euro 2020 campaign a week today when they host Czech Republic in their Group D opener at Hampden.
