Everybody else – trade union leaders, Labour MPs, some Tories and sole traders and freelancers themselves – instantly spotted the lethal hole in his earnings safety net.
Forcing grafters to choose between going to work and staying at home virtually penniless was playing Russian roulette – because in the hiatus, a number will undoubtedly have become unnecessarily infected and in turn passed the disease to others unwittingly.
We are pulling together – but let’s not pretend that we are all in this together when Prince Charles is tested and frontline NHS staff are not.
Or that a Government pulling out all the stops to revive the NHS never starved it for 10 years. It was equally slow buying face masks and ventilators.
Sunak getting there eventually does not undo harm he neglectfully inflicted.
