Kevin Lunney investigation: Three Dublin men and one Cavan man appear in court charged over abduction and assault of Quinn executive

Three men from Dublin and one man from Cavan appeared in court on Tuesday charged in connection with the abduction and assault of Quinn executive Kevin Lunney.

The four men were brought to Virgina District Court under tight security facing charges of assaulting Kevin Lunney under Section 3 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act and the false imprisonment of the business man on September 17 last under the same Act, Section 3 assault, (assault causing harm).

Assault causing harm carries a sentence of up to five years in jail while false imprisonment under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Before the court were: Alan O’Brien (38) of Shelmalier Road, East Wall, Dublin; Luke O’Reilly,(66) Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy, Co. Cavan and Darren Redmond (25), Caledon Road, East Wall, Dublin .

A fourth man from Dublin aged 38 years was also charged.

Judge McLoughlin granted a temporary order for one week banning publication of his name.

First to appear before Judge Denis McLoughlin was Luke O’Reilly from Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy, Co. Cavan.

Wearing a blue sweater and holding a grey anorak, O’Reilly didn’t speak during the court appearance .

His solicitor told the court there was no application for bail and O’Reilly was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison for one week to appear at Virginia District Court on December 3.

Darren Redmond of Caledon Road, East Wall, Dublin and Alan O'Brien of Shelmalier Road, East Wall in Dublin separately applied for bail.

There were Garda objections to both applications.

Garda witnesses said they have fears that witnesses could be intimidated or interfered with.

There was also a concern evidence could be destroyed, gardai said.

The judge refused bail to both Redmond and O'Brien and remanded both in custody to Castlerea prison for one week to appear at the same court next Tuesday.

The fourth defendant who cannot be named did not apply for bail and will also appear with the three other defendants  in the same court next Tuesday December 3rd.
