Kevin Lee vs. Gregor Gillespie targeted for UFC 244 in New York

Kevin Lee will be facing a stern test in his move back down to lightweight.

A matchup between Lee (18-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) and undefeated Gregor Gillespie (13-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) is in the works for UFC 244 in November. A person with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie on plans for the fight, but requested anonymity since the UFC has yet to make an announcement.

UFC 244 takes place Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass.

Lee will return to 155-pounds after an unsuccessful welterweight debut. He was submitted by Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on ESPN+ 10 in May, and will look to re-establish himself in the lightweight division after not having won there since April 2018.

After winning his first six UFC fights, Gillespie will take part in his highest-profile fight to date. “The Gift” has scored finishes in all but one of his octagon appearances, most recently pounding out Yancy Medeiros in the second round at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in January.
