Kevin Kyle in thinly-veiled David Turnbull dig as he slams modern wages

Kevin Kyle has taken a thinly-veiled dig at David Turnbull as the Motherwell midfielder's move to Celtic nears a collapse.

The former Hearts, Kilmarnock and Rangers striker is unimpressed by the teenagers reported wage demands and has told him to go and earn it rather than expect it.

Record Sport Online exclusively revealed on Friday that Turnbull had turned down a first contract offer from Celtic with his agents touting him for moves to England.

And Kyle can't believe that the 19-year-old is expecting even more money than he was offered.

Turnbull was offered more money by the Hoops than they gave to Virgil van Dijk when he first signed for the club.

And Kyle tweeted: "A player earning less than a grand a week looking to get 20k a week,it’s laughable football wages these days. Go sign the deal and earn your 20k a week, you have talent you have potential, fulfill it and money will come no problem."

The former Scotland forward also hit back at those who suggested he did the same thing at Rangers when he asked for a figure higher than expected and was handed it.

He replied to one fan to say: "Yeah I chanced my arm and got a decent deal but I was at the end of my career. It wouldn't have mattered what the final offer was for me I would have signed regardless. He's quite right to ask for as much as he can but there has to be a reality."
