'Kevin Keegan said I was the best defender he ever played against' - Subs Bench speak to Bristol City legend Geoff Merrick

"My whole Bristol City experience was marvellous. When I look back at it, it makes me think, 'I wish I could have it all over again.'"

The latest Subs Bench has landed and it's part two of the team's extensive chat with cast iron Bristol City legend Geoff Merrick.

Over 15 years and 433 appearances, Merrick established himself as one of the defining figures in the club's history and enjoyed all the highs and lows that come with such a long and rich association with one club.

The proud Bristolian discusses the achievement of City staying in Division One after that glorious promotion campaign of 1975/76 and why lining up at Highbury on the opening day of the following season wasn't his best memory in a City shirt.

But for all the celebration, Merrick's time at Ashton Gate also had a dark side with his place among the Ashton Gate 8 and he questions just why it went so wrong so quickly.

Speaking to Richard Latham and Nigel Turner, Merrick also delves into some the stellar names his played against and what made them so special and why the 1970s was such a fertile time for great British footballers.
