Kevin Hart says hosting 2019 Oscars is 'opportunity of a lifetime'

Kevin Hart is about to achieve a life goal after accepting the “unbelievable” invite to host the 2019 Academy Awards.

The US comedian, 39, promised to make the prestigious ceremony a “special one” as he follows in the footsteps of Jimmy Kimmel, Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen Degeneres.

Hart broke the news on Instagram, posting a picture of the iconic Oscars trophy. “For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same...I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s supposed to,” he wrote.

“I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars. I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time....”

Hart said he was looking forward to “the legendary list of hosts” and that his “mom is smiling from ear to ear right now”.

He finished: “I will be sure to make this year’s Oscars a special one. I appreciate the @TheAcademy for the opportunity ....now it’s time to rise to the occasion.”

The Academy shared Hart’s message on Twitter alongside the caption: “Welcome to the family!”

The 91st Academy Awards will take place on Monday, February 25. Nominations will be announced on January 22.
