Kevin Harper is the key: Albion Rovers chairman looks to sign up boss for next season

Albion Rovers chairman Eddie Hagerty has described gaffer Kevin Harper as “central” to their plans for next season.

Last week Cliftonhill boss Harper Albion Rovers boss Kevin Harper wants board backing next term after completing great escape to challenge at the top of League Two next term after avoiding the relegation play-off spot.

With the manager and assistant Joe McLaughlin out of contract following the final day defeat to Annan, Hagerty says he is keen to tie up the boss on a new deal and build for a top four bid.

The chief says contract talks between the club and Harper are ongoing.

“We are obviously starting to look to next season now,” Hagerty told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.

“Getting the right kind of players is obviously critical, and building on the core we have here.

“The current deals with players don’t run out until June so we have a bit of time in that regard, but that will be Kevin’s business about who he wants to stay, who he wants to bring in, and if we can afford it.

“I think a lot of the players have enjoyed the experience of playing under Kevin and he is central to our plan for next season.

“We want to go beyond the great escape. We have the ambition to be challenging at the top of the division again next season.”

Harper told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser that he hoped to find the solution that was “best for everyone.”

He continued: “Everything has to be right for the club, for me, and for the players. We want to be challenging at the right end of the table next season. I’ve enjoyed my time at the club and would like to go again next season and build.”
