Kevin Federline praises ex Britney Spears as she 'checks into mental health facility'

Britney Spears ' ex-husband Kevin Federline has praised her for seeking mental health treatment, his attorney says.

K-Fed was married to Britney from 2004 to 2007, and the exes share kids Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12.

A statement released by his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said: "Kevin commends Britney for recognizing that she needs to take a step back and that she is taking reasonable steps to dealing with her situation in a responsible way," reports ET .

Britney, 37, is reported to have checked herself into a mental health facility to seek treatment after suffering emotional stress over her father's illness.

The tragic illness of her dad Jamie saw her cancel her upcoming Las Vegas residency.

Sharing a picture of herself as a child with her dad and mum Lynne, she told her followers back in January: "I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination.

"I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make.

"A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time.

"I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always."

Just yesterday, Britney shared a meme that read "Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit."

She shared it, saying: "We all need to take time for a little 'me time'."
