Kevin Durant to miss remainder of series vs. Rockets

Initially, Kevin Durant was expected to miss Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets on Friday with a right calf strain.

He’ll still miss Friday’s game — the problem won’t end there for the Golden State Warriors. Golden State announced on Thursday it will be without Durant for the rest of the series.

Although they’re down 3-2, the scales are now tipping in the Rockets favor. Despite this, Warriors coach Steve Kerr is pleased with the news, he told reporters.

I think it’s good news. Calf strain, he’s had them before. He’s responded well. Obviously, we’re disappointed he won’t be able to play in this series. If we’re able to win the series and move on, looks good for his return in the not-too-distant future.

The Warriors lineup is still filled with championship winners, some of which won well before Durant showed up.

However, the Rockets have shown they can take care of business even when Durant is readily available for the opposition. Kerr’s confidence in his players is all good and well, but they’re going to have their hands full with the Rockets, especially on the road in Game 6. If Houston can force a Game 7, Golden State will be without Durant and any momentum — major pluses for the Rockets, assuming they force the road contest.
