Kevin Durant to announce free agency decision on Instagram Sunday evening

Kevin Durant will not have NBA fans wondering for long about where he’ll be playing next season.

Durant is the biggest star in this star-studded free agency class and he will reportedly announce his free agency decision Sunday evening on “The Boardroom’s” Instagram story, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “The Boardroom” is Durant’s show on ESPN+ where he hosts guests and talks about topics surrounding sports business.

Free agency is set to start at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday and teams will be able to negotiate contract terms with free agents and agree to deals in principle.

Contracts cannot be signed until noon on July 6.

Per reports from Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Golden State Warriors will offer Durant a five-year, $221 max deal at 6 p.m. ET. Stein has also reported that the Brooklyn Nets are confident they’ll land Durant, along with Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan.

With Durant announcing his free agency decision on social media, there have been some technical difficulties. “The Boardroom’s” Instagram following has skyrocketed so much that the page was glitching and people weren’t able to follow it.

Durant announcing his decision through his company’s social media is unique, and it aligns with how NBA players are increasingly being able to control their narratives.

A two-time champion, Durant has seemingly taken a page out of LeBron James’ playbook. When James joined the Miami Heat in 2010, he announced his decision on an ESPN special called “The Decision.”

No other player had done something like that before. With social media’s presence growing, Durant announcing his decision on Instagram could perhaps create more avenues through which players can announce their free agency decisions.
