Tragic news has struck Kevin Durant and his family. Durant’s close friend, Clifford Dixon, was fatally shot outside of an Atlanta bar early Thursday morning.
According to police reports and Sports Illustrated, Dixon was shot at the SL Lounge on Budford Highway around 1 a.m. ET while celebrating his 32nd birthday. Dixon was reportedly standing in the parking lot when he was shot multiple times. He was transported to Grady Hospital by first responders and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Dixon was taken in by Durant’s mother, Wanda, when he was 16 years old. Durant even referenced Dixon in his 2014 MVP speech, giving credit to the importance Dixon had on his personal life.
“You keep me every day. There are days I come home upset after a game or a practice and you just brighten my day up,” Durant said. “I thank you guys. I wouldn’t be be here without you guys. This is our trophy, too.”
