Kevin Durant "on the verge" of being traded by Brooklyn Nets after Kyrie Irving exit

Brooklyn Nets superstar look like they're ready to wave the white flag as they are reportedly willing to trade Kevin Durant if the right offer comes in.

Kyrie Irving was sent to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday after the point guard asked to be traded before Thursday's deadline, following a break down in communications after he was offered an extension by the team.

The Nets received Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith from the Dallas Mavericks, as well as a first-round draft pick and two second-round picks for Irving - a move that will weaken their roster for this season but gives them flexibility to build their future roster.

And they could do that even further by trading MVP candidate Durant, who will not want to be apart of a rebuilding team as he enters the later years of his outstanding career.

Durant already gave the team an indication that he is ready to leave, when he handed in a trade request this past summer, highlighting that he was unsure of the direction of the franchise.

But after the Irving trade, the 34-year-old will almost certainly look to be moved - especially if a contender is to offer a deal to Brooklyn, and that is what Stephen A. Smith has projected.

Smith said on ESPN's First Take : "I am hearing he is on the verge of potentially being moved. I am hearing Boston is making some calls. Jaylen Brown, keep your eye on that."

All-star Brown was linked with a move to the Nets for Durant last summer when the latter announced his desire to be moved, with no trade materialising.

Brown has been tremendous this season once again, with he and Jayson Tatum leading the Celtics as they sit in the first seed in the eastern conference.

The Celtics do have a number of players, including Al Horford, Derrick White, Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari who are a few players who could be offered in a package for the superstar scorer.

But with the Celtics sitting in the number one seed, while having injury issues throughout their roster, it would be a surprise to see a deal swung. The Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns are three other potential landing spots that they have been reported.
