Kevin Durant has changed the landscape of the NBA once more.
Durant confirmed Sunday that he’ll be joining the Brooklyn Nets, announcing the news through a post on The Boardroom’s Instagram page.
He will reportedly sign a four-year, $164 million deal with the Nets, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Durant will join fellow free agents Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan in Brooklyn, per reports from Wojnarowski.
Each player will be able to officially sign contracts on July 6.
Durant won two championships with the Golden State Warriors, and he also won Finals MVP with both titles in 2017 and 2018.
Before news came out that Durant would join the Nets, he and his business manager, Rich Kleiman, reportedly met with Warriors general manager Bob Myers, per Wojnarowski.
Durant notified Myers that he would leave, and he also told other teams of his decision Sunday. The other teams that were reportedly pursuing Durant were the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers.
Three summers ago, Durant joined the Warriors in free agency, and he built on how LeBron James ignited the league’s player-movement era.
Durant likely will miss the entire 2019-20 season because he suffered a right ruptured Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Still, with Durant teaming up with Irving and Jordan, the Nets will surely be a title contender in the Eastern Conference for the next few years.
