Kevin Durant Dunks on Former Teammate Who Critiqued Him for Not Hitting Weight Room

If you examine the litany of nicknames you’ll find on Suns forward Kevin Durant’s Basketball Reference page, it won’t take you long to get to “Slim Reaper.”

The implication is obvious: the future Hall of Famer is relatively slight for a forward, and has been since his rookie year as the SuperSonics’ shooting guard. As much discussion as it has generated among fans and observers, Durant’s frame has not precluded him from making 13 All-Star teams and becoming one of the best players of his or any generation.

On Wednesday, former All-Star guard and forward Andre Iguodala made headlines by insinuating Durant hamstrings his own game by not lifting weights.

“KD’s only flaw is he won’t lift weights,” Iguodala said on his podcast with former teammate Evan Turner. “That’s it.”

Though Iguodala went on to compliment his former Warriors teammate, Durant disputed that account, writing, “Now I don’t lift weights, aight man….. these boys say anything on these podcasts.”

Iguodala and Durant spent 2017 to ’19 as teammates with the Warriors, winning two championships and three conference titles.

Weights or no weights, Durant has been his usual excellent self this season; his 30.8 point-per-game average constitutes his highest per-game scoring rate since his 2014 MVP year with the Thunder.
