Kevin Durant denies trying to get James Harden to Nets: 'I don't know where that came from'

NEW YORK — Kevin Durant denied the rumor he and James Harden conspired to join forces in Brooklyn while working out together in California during the offseason.

"I don't know where you're making these stories up, that me and James talked about any of this at a workout," Durant said during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. "I don't know where that came from. James is a friend of mine, but I let the front office handle all of that stuff. I was just so focused on working out.

"I heard all the noise that James potentially wanted to come to the Nets, but anyone can make up stories, anyone can write a story and it gets some traction," Durant continued. "Nothing's ever set in stone until it's set in stone. So I've never thought too much about it, just focused on myself and my teammates probably did the same thing, and we just move forward."

The Nets became the center of attention during the offseason after reports emerged of Harden's desire to leave the Houston Rockets, specifically requesting a trade to the Nets. No deal was completed, and The Athletic reports trade talks never progressed given the Rockets' desire for significant draft compensation and star-level young talent.
