Kevin Durant clearly tried to avoid becoming a meme with his boring Nets announcement

If you remember back to July 2016 when Kevin Durant announced that he was signing with the Golden State Warriors, the “Next Chapter” post with The Players’ Tribune became a meme that lived on for the entirety of his time with the Warriors.

The featured image wasn’t thought through at all, giving Durant a plain white shirt to wear. Even the most inexperienced of Photoshop users were able to mock Durant.

Now, with Durant set to sign with the Brooklyn Nets, it was clear that he wanted to avoided a “Next Chapter” situation with Brooklyn. The announcement was made with a video through The Boardroom, and it couldn’t have been more generic.

That was the whole thing.

Nobody is going to be able to turn that into something like this …

Theoretically, the “Brooklyn Nets” font could get Photoshopped into something else, but without an image of Durant involved, it wouldn’t be an effective meme.

It was a lesson learned.
