Kevin Durant breaks silence on his Game 5 Achilles injury: ‘I’m hurting deep in the soul’

Kevin Durant battled back from his May calf injury to return for Monday’s Game 5. It had the potential to be a series-changing boost for Golden State.

Yet, after 12 minutes of impressive basketball, Durant’s worst-case scenario was realized.

Early in the second quarter, Durant went down with another injury. This time, according to Warriors GM Bob Myers, Durant suffered an Achilles injury. Durant will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, but a ruptured Achilles would not only end next season for Durant — it would also alter the landscape of the NBA.

Still, a game went on after that injury, and the Warriors won.

Durant was seen leaving the arena in a walking boot and crutches. Shortly after the Warriors’ 106-105 win, Durant took to Instagram and offered his reaction to the injury and win.

Durant wrote:

Dub nation gonna be loud as (expletive) for game 6.

I’m hurting deep in the soul right now I can’t lie but seeing my brothers get this win was like taking a shot of tequila, i got new life lol.

The Warriors will return home for Thursday’s Game 6 in Oakland.
