Kevin Doyle is to return to Wolves after his loan at Crystal Palace ended on Monday with no chance of the agreement being renewed.

Alan Pardew is keen to strengthen his attacking options but Doyle is not part of his plans and the Republic of Ireland striker will rejoin Wolves, where he has been out of favour since Kenny Jackett took charge at the beginning of last season.

“I am more than happy to play if selected but I haven’t been in the manager’s plans, so I’m not sure what will happen,” Doyle said. “I haven’t spoken to anybody at the club about it and all I know is the date [19 January] I have to report back.”

Doyle, who scored his first goal in 11 months in Palace’s FA Cup win at Dover, would be open to another loan but is unaware of any options. “Having been at QPR for the second half of last season, it’s been a year since I’ve been at Wolves, so I’m not sure what to expect. If another club wants to take me on loan, I would consider it if I’m not going to play at Wolves.”

The 31-year-old believes Palace have made the right choice in appointing Pardew and is confident they will stay up. “Of all the managers I’ve played under, and there have been quite a few, I think Pardew left one of the best first impressions and I’m sure he’ll be able to keep them up. He’s got the right plan and right approach.”
