Kevin Dotson returns, David DeCastro injured in Friday night practice

On Friday night the Pittsburgh Steelers ran a simulated game scenario at Heinz Field to help better bring the team to gameday preparedness while not having preseason games. The emphasis was on live action in special teams as well as situational football on offense and defense.

After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media via Zoom and one of the big takeaways was about injuries. The good news was guard Kevin Dotson returned to action after being sidelined for more than a week with a knee injury. Dotson is a promising rookie interior offensive lineman who has shown a ton of potential.

Tomlin also noted veteran guard David DeCastro left practice with an injury. Tomlin wouldn’t elaborate but we can safely assume this is the same injury that has kept DeCastro out of padded practices so far during training camp.

With all the turnover on the offensive line this offseason, the last thing the Steelers need is to be without the best offensive lineman on the roster. Tomlin is a strong proponent of doing everything in terms of game preparedness so, with the understanding of how important DeCastro is, he might just shelve him until the first game to be sure he’s ready when it counts.
