Kevin De Bruyne sets Man City aim after returning to starting XI in Leeds drubbing

Kevin De Bruyne has vowed to continue working hard to get back to his best after returning to the starting XI in Tuesday's thumping of Leeds United - which doesn't bode well for the rest of the league considering how he played in the match.

Manchester City destroyed the Yorkshire outfit 7-0 in relentless display at the Etihad, with Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Nathan Ake amongst the goals.

As was De Bruyne, who bagged a brace, with his second being thundered into the top corner from outside of the box, on his first start since contracting Covid-19 last month.

The brilliant Belgian has been eased back into action after recovering from the virus and has opened up on the frustrations of being ruled out of action.

"Yeah. Obviously, there's been a lot happening this year, a little bit out of my control so the only thing I can do is try to work hard and come back as quick as possible," De Bruyne told BT Sport after the resounding victory.

"It's unfortunate with everything that happened, at the time I was coming back in a good rhythm, I got Covid so it happened and now we're working hard to come back at a good level.

"I think we played incredibly well. Especially the way they press, I think we found the right time to attack them and then obviously when it's 3, 4-0 up it gets tougher for them.

"They tried to keep it a little bit more tight in the second-half but I think we had enough chances to score a lot more."

De Bruyne was also glad to see some of the City players who haven't had many minutes in recent weeks get in on the act as well.

"I think it's good for everybody," he added. "A lot of people who maybe didn't play a lot, played today, chipped in, so I think for the whole team it's a booster."
