Kevin De Bruyne sends message to Man City over Mikel Arteta taking Arsenal job

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has urged the club not to stand in Mikel Arteta’s way if he wants the Arsenal job.

Arteta is the frontrunner for the job after talks with club officials at his mansion in Manchester on Sunday.

The former Gunners captain was in the opposition dugout as Manchester City won 3-0 at the Emirates.

Further talks are expected with Arteta keen to make the step into management after working alongside Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

And midfielder De Bruyne insists he should be allowed to go if he wants to pursue a top job.

De Bruyne said: “If he gets a good opportunity to be a head coach, and he thinks it’s time for him to take that, I think as a club you need to let somebody go.

“You want to grow as a head coach. If he doesn’t, it’s his decision, but why, otherwise, start coaching in that way?

“Whatever he wants to do, you have to do it. If you want to grow, you need to take opportunities when they come.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are fuming with Arsenal for their pursuit of
Arteta and have told the Gunners it will cost them a seven-figure sum
to land him.

Despite City’s anger at Arsenal’s approach to Arteta, it is understood
the Blues will not stand in the way of Arteta should he accept the
offer of the vacant job.

City were blindsided by Arsenal’s approach for Arteta and were angered
by the fact they were not approached for talks on Sunday, despite
spending the day at the Emirates.
