Kevin De Bruyne reveals what he thinks of new Man City signing Rodri

Kevin De Bruyne thinks Rodri is the right man to replace Fernandinho at the base of City's midfield.

Pep Guardiola brought the 23-year-old over from Atletico Madrid this summer for a club record £62million fee with the idea he would be the long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

The Brazilian is nearing the end of his career and Rodri has been settling into his new team while on tour over in Asia over the past two weeks.

City's new man made four appearances on tour and not only impressed his manager but also his teammates.

"I think he is doing really well," De Bruyne said. "Obviously it's a position that is really difficult to find but I think they definitely found the right man. He has got time enough to settle in and I think he is going to do well."

De Bruyne's comments came after City's final game of the tour against Yokohama F. Marinos at the Nissan Stadium on Saturday night, when Guardiola lauded praise on the defensive midfielder for his performance.

"Rodri was incredible today," the City manager said.

"We knew it but today I can assure you we have an incredible holding midfielder for the next decade - or at least the years he will be here with a contract."

The City squad flew back to Manchester on Saturday evening following the game and Guardiola said his team are fully prepared for the new campaign which gets underway against Liverpool on Sunday.

"I know them better so now I don't have doubts about what they can do," Guardiola said.

"I'm not talking about winning or losing but against Yokohama for example against a team second in the table with incredible dynamic and our lack of physical condition. We made mistakes but that's good in this period. We are going to solve it and I have no doubts that the team will be ready again to try it."
