Kevin De Bruyne provides his thoughts on the VAR decision that saw Man City draw with Spurs

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has given his thoughts on the decision to disallow a stoppage time goal, that would have seen th Champions grab three points against Tottenham on Saturday.

Spurs thought that a point had slipped from their grasp when Gabriel Jesus struck to send the Etihad into raptures, but the celebrations were cut short when the newly introduced VAR and handball rule combined to deem the goal as not legal.

Some Man City players spoke to the referee following the full-time whistle, showing their displeasure at the decision made by the VAR official based in Stockley Park.

"It feels weird to have the last-minute goal disallowed but we just have to accept it," De Bruyne told Match of the Day.

"I'm old school - I love the flow of the game and the enthusiasm. But if we want to get the game better I'm fine with it.

"I have no issue with the rule - the rule is the rule - but it should be looked at because that situation is crazy."

The new handball rule that was introduced ahead of the new season states that even if accidental, if the ball touches the hand or arm of an attacking player in the buildup to a goal, then it will be disallowed.

Despite the disappointing end to the game for Man City, De Bruyne was happy with the Champions' performance.

"Everybody is proud with the way we performed - Spurs got two goals but they only had two chances so they were really clinical. We have to be proud because to play at this level against a team like Tottenham is really good for the rest of the season.

"It's always more difficult in a big game but we almost totally dominated them. They had some of the ball but it was always their defenders that had the ball which wasn't an issue for us."
