Kevin De Bruyne names Liverpool star as his Premier League player of the year

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that he would have voted for Liverpool ’s Sadio Mane for this season’s player of the year.

It is getting to the time of the season when the PFA Player of the Year ceremony would have taken place, where a number of Reds players would almost certainly have been in the running.

The Premier League, as well as all other elite football across the UK and Europe have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

UEFA have reiterated their strong recommendation to complete top tier domestic competitions, but did encourage the use of a “sporting merit” system should campaigns be unable to resume.

But one thing is certain, and that is Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League, two wins adrift of securing a long-awaited title.

The Reds have had a number of players step up to the plate throughout the campaign, while competing with Man City for the English football crown.

In an interview with BT Sport, De Bruyne was asked for who his player of the year would be if he had to vote now, and his answer was Reds No.10, Mane

“I think he’s been the total package this year for Liverpool,” said De Bruyne.

“He’s been important, so if I had to choose somebody I would choose Mane.”
