Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that he doesn't remember too much about the Antonio Rudiger incident and the Champions League final defeat to Chelsea back in May.
Rudiger was heavily criticised for the challenge in the 60th minute that saw the Belgian severely injured and hurt with dangerous face and eye injuries.
The criticism of that said incident was so much that the German himself came out after the dust had settled on social media to personally apologise to the former Chelsea man for what happened that night in Porto.
In a Twitter post a few days after the showpiece event itself, the Champions League winning centre-half delivered an apologetic message.
"I'm really sorry for @DeBruyneKev’s injury," the Blues centre-back said.
He then went on to write: "Of course this was not intentional from me – I've already been in touch with Kevin personally and I really wish him a speedy recovery & hope we can see him back on the pitch very soon again."
One person who wasn't a fan of the yellow card outcome that came about after this incident happened was De Bruyne's national team manager Roberto Martinez, who believed that the punishment should have been a lot sterner for Chelsea's centre-back.
"For me, Rudiger is very, very fortunate," said Martinez. "When you look at the replay, there’s no clash of heads.
"He’s properly leaving the shoulder against Kevin. He seems concussed and we will see the state of that.
"But that leaves a sour taste, because Rudiger's holding his head, it's almost that he wants to show that he's hiding something. For me, it was excessive force and it was reckless. And it should have been a red card."
Five months on from the day itself and talk about the said incident and the final itself is not going away with the Man City star opening up about what happened in his pre-match player press conference ahead of Belgium's big game on Thursday night against rivals France.
As per Belgian Journalist Kristof Terreur, the midfield maestro himself doesn't remember too much from the night in Portugal.
He stated: "I have seen the images back. He just wanted to block me, not to cause an injury. For me it was not a red card. I was concussed, so the final is all a blur."
