Kevin De Bruyne injury update gives Man City a Champions League final boost

Kevin De Bruyne has returned to training and 'feels good', Pep Guardiola has revealed.

De Bruyne played in Manchester City's Champions League semi-final triumph over Paris Saint-Germain but has missed the following two Premier League games - a defeat to Chelsea and a victory over Newcastle - due to an unspecified injury.

However, the Blues have finally received some good news after Guardiola revealed ahead of Tuesday's penultimate Premier League fixture against Brighton that he is back in action.

"Yeah, he's training the last two days and he feels good," the manager said.

De Bruyne's return couldn't come at a better time for City with the Champions League final against Chelsea now less than two weeks away.

When asked if it's important that the brilliant Belgian gets some game time under his belt ahead of the trip to Porto, Guardiola was quick to point out that he is not the only crucial member of the squad.

"Kev is important like everyone is," he added. "The fact when we are able to stick together and be able to push each other will be possible to win it.

"Kevin is important, everyone knows it but everyone is at the same level, we will see his level and see if he is fit to play."

Though the final is looming, City still have two Premier League games to go yet and Guardiola insists his focus remains on Tuesday's trip to Brighton and the final game of the campaign against Everton.

"We will have six days after Everton to prepare for the final and we'll think about it then," he said.

"We can't prepare well if we aren't prepared for Brighton and Everton. Tomorrow we are going to play a game to win again, it’s the best way to arrive for the final. Final five or six games will be more focused for Chelsea."
