Kevin De Bruyne explains how Manchester City will deal with injury woes

Kevin De Bruyne has stated that injuries to their key players will present an opportunity for others to step up in their place after Manchester City lost another star man during the win against Brighton.

The Belgian midfielder spent a large chunk of time on the treatment table last season, but is back to his brilliant best after making a full recovery.

Unfortunately, Pep Guardiola is still missing a few key players - Leroy Sane is sidelined for the foreseeable future following surgery to fix his ACL problem while Benjamin Mendy has only just returned to training.

Against Brighton at the weekend, defender Aymeric Laporte was stretchered off with a knee problem that Guardiola said "doesn't look good"; the true extent of the issue not currently known.

De Bruyne admitted that injuries to his teammates are a blow to everyone at the club.

"It's always a shame when people get injured," he told mancity.com. "It’s not nice for the team or for the person when you are away for long.

"We already have Leroy [injured] so if Aymeric is out for a couple of months it’s a blow for us."

While the injuries potentially weaken City's chances during the Premier League title race, De Bruyne feels they offer the chance for other squad players to step up and make a name for themselves.

Fernandinho replaced the Frenchman in the back four against the Seagulls, but youngsters like Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis may also get a look in if Laporte is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

De Bruyne added: "But on the other hand, we have to deal with it.

"We lost Vinnie [Kompany] already but it gives possibilities to other people and hopefully John [Stones] will be back soon and hopefully we will be OK."
