Kevin De Bruyne equals Thierry Henry's assist record and wins Premier League Playmaker of the Season

Kevin De Bruyne has equalled the Premier League record for assists in a season with a brilliant performance on the final day of the season against Norwich.

De Bruyne went into Manchester City's clash with the already-relegated Canaries on 19 assists, one short of Thierry Henry's long-standing record of 20. He had already beaten his previous best of 18 assists, and has been vocal over the Premier League's decision to strip him of an assist in both league games against Arsenal.

Sitting six assists clear of his nearest rival, De Bruyne was almost guaranteed to win the Playmaker of the Year award for most assists in 2019/20, but his mind was clearly on a more impressive record.

Before the game, De Bruyne insisted he would not be bothered if he didn't get the crucial assists against Norwich, but he did not have to worry about that as City were comfortable in their victory on Sunday.

A neat pass from De Bruyne sent Raheem Sterling through to make it 3-0 for City in the 78th minute, giving him his 20th assist.

He had already scored City's second.

City went on to win 5-0, with Ederson's clean sheet giving him the Golden Glove award.

City may not have won the Premier League, but records like De Bruyne's gives them something to show for what has been a frustrating season.

De Bruyne has been City's best player this season, and will now go into their Champions League campaign full of confidence as a Premier League record holder.
