Kevin De Bruyne confirms Man City contract extension talks

Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed talks are underway to extend his contract at Manchester City.

Current Premier League, PFA, and City Player of the Year De Bruyne has picked up from where he left off last season with a number of impressive displays at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

The Belgian, 29, still has two and a half years left on his current deal, but has spoken in the past about finishing his career at City. Before the club's Champions League ban was overturned this summer, however, De Bruyne had hinted that he could look to leave if European football was off the table for two seasons.

Luckily for City, the Court of Arbitration for Sport allowed them to compete in the Champions League this season, and now De Bruyne has confirmed the news all City fans have been waiting for - that discussions have started over a new contract and he is more than happy to stay at the Etihad.

Speaking after he helped Belgium to a 2-0 Nations League win over England, De Bruyne told VTM Nieuws : "I am happy in Manchester. I am at a good club. Good owners. Good club.

"We are chatting a bit, but we are not very far in the negotiations."

De Bruyne, who has encountered some troubles with his agent recently, also confirmed he is representing himself in the talks - something he says is possible because he is on the same page as the club, rather than entering talks wanting different things.

He continued: “Now I do it myself. I would like to stay with Man City, so it is not a difficult situation. If I didn’t want to stay, it would take someone to mediate."
