Kevin Clifton shares his 'main reason' for quitting Strictly with career announcement

Kevin Clifton has revealed he will be playing Scott Hastings in the stage adaption of Strictly Ballroom.

The professional dancer recently announced he had quit Strictly Come Dancing after seven years on the show leaving fans devastated.

Kevin made the announcement on BBC Radio Two and said the opportunity was the main reason for leaving the show, telling Zoe ball he "couldn't turn it down".

Ahead of his appearance Kevin teased fans on social media.

He tweeted: "On @ZoeTheBall @BBCRadio2 in the morning for a massive announcement!"

The 37-year-old will take the lead role in the theatre production based on Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 film.

The adaptation is directed by Craig Revel Horwood and Kevin said he  is excited to work with his Strictly colleague again.

During the interview Kevin explained how the original movie became an inspiration for everything he did after watching it at the age of 10.

He said: "I've done seven years on the show and I feel I've achieved everything I want to. I couldn't turn down my life's ambition."

The musical will tour the UK and starts in September 2020.

Upon hearing the news fans shared their excitment.

One wrote: "OMG @keviclifton doing Strictly Ballroom! Hope he is doing the MK Theatre in October! We’ve already got tickets!"

While a third commented: "Yesssssss Kev!!! This is gonna be amazing."

In a statement last week Kevin explained he was leaving Strictly Come Dancing as the "time had come to move on and focus on other areas" of his life and career.

He said: "I am grateful to the BBC and Stricly Come Dancing for giving me the opportunity to have been a part of something truly special."
