Kevin Byard didn’t mince words about significance of Titans’ 4-0 start

The Tennessee Titans are off to a 4-0 start, the franchise’s best since 2008, but, of course, safety Kevin Byard isn’t satisfied and made it clear that this team has much bigger goals in mind.

When asked by NFL Network’s James Palmer about his team’s perfect start through five weeks, Byard didn’t mince words about its significance.

“At the end of the day, we haven’t done [expletive],” Byard said. “Let’s just keep it real. We’ve won four games. That hasn’t won the division for us. That hasn’t won a Super Bowl at all. I mean we’re not about just winning four games. We’re trying to win a Super Bowl. We can’t be out here talking about respect and stuff like that. You get respect by winning.”

Byard is spot-on. Sure, a 4-0 start is great, but the Titans have Super Bowl aspirations after making it to the AFC Championship Game last season and won’t simply rest on their laurels after a good start.

If Tennessee wants to show it’s ready to take that next step, first things first: the Titans have to get over the 9-7 hump and win a division title, something this franchise hasn’t done since the aforementioned 2008 season.

So far, so good, as the Titans’ 4-0 mark has given them an early lead in the AFC South and puts them in the No. 1 seed in the conference — but there’s still a long way to go.

Tennessee will look to continue its winning ways on Sunday against the Houston Texans at Nissan Stadium, with kickoff set to take place at noon CT.
