Kettlewell left fuming as Motherwell denied 'clear' penalty against Rangers

Stuart Kettlewell has fumed at the officials after feeling his side were denied a blatant penalty against Rangers.

The Steelmen suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Philippe Clement's Gers, but Kettlewell believes his side should have been awarded an opportunity to get back into the game.

Forward Mika Biereth looked set to have a strike at goal in the second period to haul his side back into the game, but replays showed he was pulled to the ground by Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers.

Referee David Dickinson decided not to award a spot-kick and VAR did not intervene.

On the incident, Kettlewell said: "I am a little bit irked. There were a couple of penalty calls from our side of things, there is one on Mika Biereth that I have seen back from the footage that we have.

"It is a free kick in the wide area and Mika looks for all the world that he is going to get the next contact with a free shot at goal at the back post in a bit of a stramash.

"Quite clearly his arm was pulled and he was hauled to the ground.

"Again I am seeing these given on a weekly basis. That might have been the opportunity for us to get back into the game from the penalty spot.

"I am not making excuses for it. It is just you would love one or two of these things to fall for you and they absolutely don't.

"I watch highlights programmes every single week, I watch all the footage of goals and penalties given and I see them given every single week."
