Kesa Electricals climbs on vague bid talk

Kesa Electricals, owner of the Comet chain, is moving higher ahead of this week's trading update.

But it is bid speculation as much as anticipation of the figures which is driving the rise. There are rumours of private equity interest, and also some talk that activist investor Knight Vinke might be adding to its 14.34% stake.

The timing would be interesting. Kesa last week said Hugh Harvey, the managing director of Comet, had left the company, to be succeeded by commercial director Bob Darke. The company issued a profit warning in February, with Comet being the main problem due to the current consumer climate in the UK and increased competition.
