Kerry Wynn on why he left the Giants: ‘I was ready for change’

The New York Giants were in play to re-sign defensive end Kerry Wynn right up until the moment they weren’t.

Late last week, less than 24 hours after taking a free agent visit with the team, Wynn signed a one-year deal to join the Cincinnati Bengals. But why did he choose that over a return to East Rutherford?

“I spent five years with the Giants, but felt I was ready for change,” Wynn via the Bengals website. “I’m excited [to be a Bengal]. Excited to get to work.”

Wynn initially joined the Giants as an undrafted rookie out of Richmond in 2014 and was a surprise addition to their 53-man roster. He never looked back after that and became one of New York’s most consistent rotational defensive linemen, playing both inside and outside.

However, entering 2019, it became clear the Giants were in a bit of an adjustment period and were making some changes along their defensive line. And while a spot remained for Wynn, he may have a better chance at playing time in Cincinnati.

In 63 career games with the Giants, Wynn recorded 140 tackles (90 solo), nine stuffs, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, nine passes defensed and one interception.
