Kerry Wallet to bolster e-commerce drive

Kerry Express (Thailand) is developing its own e-wallet -- Kerry Wallet -- supported by Sabuy Technology, in an effort to gain a stronger footing on online shopping platforms and in the area of social commerce.

With the wallet, Kerry aims to expand its business further into the flourishing e-commerce and social commerce market in Thailand and serve the lifestyles of online shoppers. The e-wallet is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter this year.

Kerry's chief executive, Alex Ng, said the e-wallet will be a major platform to support and drive the company's growth.

Kerry expects the wallet to eventually become a system which will serve Kerry's frequent users as well as people looking to adopt a social and electronic lifestyle.

Apart from being a new product, the wallet will also be linked to all payment solutions offered by its shareholders, namely VGI and Rabbit, partners and customers. This vision echoes the company's strategy as a neutral open business platform.

"Kerry Wallet will add to the existing payment channels, namely PromptPay, QR code and Rabbit Line Pay, and will become a new payment method for Kerry's customer base of over 10 million monthly active users, who usually make payment at a service point or pay through the courier's cash on delivery service," Mr Ng said.

Customers will also be allowed to top-up the wallet via more than 56,000 top-up machines of Termsabuy Plus nationwide and 100,000 service points of Sabuy's partners, including the ShipSmile store and another 4,000 parcel service points nationwide.

Kerry and Sabuy also welcome partners to join the development of Kerry Wallet, he said.

Chookiat Rujanapornpaje, chief executive at Sabuy Technology, said the company's collaboration with Kerry will give online merchants and Kerry's customers more access and exposure to Sabuy's products and services.

Customers can use Kerry Wallet as payment for products and services in the Sabuy Ecosystem, including food courts in Lotus's and at department stores nationwide.

The wallet will also allow customers to buy products from Vending Plus machines installed in department stores, factories, as well as various community areas.

Mr Chookiat said Sabuy and Kerry are currently in the process of applying for permission from the Bank of Thailand and expect the wallet to be available within the fourth quarter of this year.
