Kerry travel to Offaly for sole Joe McDonagh Cup clash of the weekend

The Joe McDonagh Cup received more publicity than might have been expected this week, but for the wrong reasons.

Kevin Martin’s departure as Offaly manager in the wake of the heavy defeat to Westmeath last Saturday shone an uncomfortable light once again on the decline of the game in the county, and the administration that has overseen it.

But, while Offaly’s performance was exceptionally poor against Westmeath, they would have done very well to eke out a result even if they were at the top of their game, such was the quality of Joe Quaid’s side’s display.

Kerry come to Mullingar this afternoon and are likely to be put to the sword in what is the only fixture in the competition this weekend.
