Kerry Katona washes her hands of George Kay's death after cop warning over drugs

Kerry Katona wants nothing more to do with her estranged husband George Kay's affairs in the wake of his death - and won't be going to his inquest.

The mum of five says her "stomach turns" whenever her late ex's name is mentioned, and so is washing her hands of his grim death.

George died of a suspected drugs overdose at a Holiday Inn in Cheshire last July, after being caught by reception staff "eating" cocaine off the desk.

He had been accused by Kerry of multiple instances of domestic abuse against her, and the pair had been estranged at the time of his death.

Last week an officer from Cheshire Police was given a formal warning for failing to take drugs from George the day before he died.

Writing in her new! magazine column, Kerry said: "The whole thing is very strange, but to be honest it's not something I want to get into.

"I've been trying so hard to move on since George passed away and I found out about this story when everyone else did, via the papers. Even though technically I'm still George's wife, I'm not his next of kin because we were separated.

"So when it comes to the upcoming inquest into his death, his parents will deal with it."

She added: "My stomach always turns when I see his name in the press. It still affects me. I'd rather have nothing to do with it going forward."

It comes after Cheshire Police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which investigates any potential failings or wrong-doing by police officers, over the actions of the unnamed cop.

A notice on the force's website last week stated: "A police officer failed to take positive action when dealing with a guest at The Holiday Inn in Runcorn on 5 July 2019.

"The officer failed to search the guest despite there being reasonable grounds to do so.

"The officer failed to seize a small quantity of a substance believed to be a controlled drug in the bathroom of the hotel room.

"The officer switched off their body worn video prior to entering the bathroom where the substance believed to be a controlled drug was found.

"The actions of the officer were not captured."
