Kerry Katona slams 'child abuse' accusations after treating kids to takeaways

Kerry Katona has responded to mum-shamers who have accused her of child abuse and neglecting her children.

The mum-of-five found herself the victim of cruel allegations thanks to her stint on Channel 4 show Celebrity Trash Monsters, where she showcased her love for treating her family to a takeaway.

Writing in her weekly new! column, the one-time I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! winner hit back at the trolls and urged those calling her out to "get a grip!"

Kerry, 41, told readers her children are "privileged" to be able to munch on takeaway food.

After updating her fans on her upcoming appearance on Celebrity Ghost Trip, where daughter Lilly will join her for the Halloween Special, the former Atomic Kitten singer then turned her attention to the recent backlash.

"Celebrity Trash Monsters also started on Sunday. I can’t lie, I hated every minute wearing that trash suit," the star began.

"I did an interview to promote the show and admitted I was embarrassed about how many takeaways I’d been feeding the kids.

I got a bit of backlash! Someone told me it’s child abuse and said I neglect my kids."

"Get a grip, sweetheart," the doting mum hit back with.

"My kids ordering sushi is not child abuse. It’s not like they’re eating scraps out of the bin. They’re privileged to be having takeaways."

Kerry's appearance on Celebrity Trash Monsters left the star "mortified" and embarrassed about her eating habits.

Appearing on the Channel 4 show alongside Jodie Kidd and former footballer John Barnes, the 41-year-old had to face up to the amount takeaways contributed to her household waste.

Kerry confessed: "We order so much food in. I was in our new house for six months and never cooked a single meal.

"We actually ended up having to get a skip in the garden... that wasn’t just for the takeaways, it was for the house too."

Despite being ashamed of her love of fast food, the former singer refused to be mum-shamed.

"It’s not like they’re eating scraps out of the f***ing skip... I actually want my kids alive and don’t want to poison them – so I get somebody else cooking for them," the star defiantly said.

Kerry is mum to five children in total; Molly, 20, Lilly-Sue, 18, Heidi, 14, Max, 13, and Dylan-Jorge, seven.

On Celebrity Trash Monsters, the doting mum breaks down when discussing her "journey" for her kids.

"I am on a journey, me Jon. I’ve been on this journey for…I’m gonna get upset now…I’ve been on a journey for a couple of years now," she told comedian Jon Richardson.

"And I just want to better myself, not just for me but for my kids as well, and I think this is really important."

As the 8 Out of 10 Cats star praised her parenting skills, Kerry was left fighting back the tears.

"Oh don’t you’re gonna make me cry," she told the presenter as he heaped praise on her.
