Kerry Katona’s relationship with look-a-like daughter - dating app help and singing genes

Kerry Katona was just 22 when she welcomed her eldest child Molly, so sometimes their relationship more like that of sisters than mother and daughter.

But unfortunately the 19-year-old won't be able to join the celebrations for her mum's 41st birthday today, as she's in Ireland, where she lives with her father Brian McFadden and his partner Danielle Parkinson.

Instead, Kerry will be celebrating with fiance Ryan Mahoney and her other four children, Lilly-Sue, 18, Heidi, 14, Max, 13, and Dylan-Jorge, six.

The former Atomic Kitten star had Molly, now 19, during her marriage to ex-husband Brian, of Westlife fame.

And Molly looks to be following in her parents' footsteps as she carves out a singing career, too, recently posting a video showing off her beautiful voice.

She took to her Instagram page to share a reel of her and a pal performing together to her 61,000 followers.

Captioning the post, the Trinity College Dublin student wrote: "Procrastination at its finest. 8 months. For 8 MONTHS we tried to record a cover, and this is the sh*t we got in the end."

The video features Molly and a guitar playing pal in various settings as they perform together between fits of giggles.

Proud mum Kerry was incredibly impressed with the youngster's voice, commenting: "Looooovveeee it your (sic) sooooo talented," along with two red heart emojis.

One Instagram user credited Molly's impressive performance to her family, writing: "Molly you got your talent from your parents love your videos xx" while another added "Wow please release an album!"

Over the last few years, Molly has begun to make a name for herself in her own right - amusing fans on her popular TikTok channel where she has over 154,000 followers.

Kerry is a big fan of Molly's short comedy sketches, sharing one of her daughters videos on her own Instagram page with the caption: "you crack me up", alongside laughing-face emojis.

Kerry has also featured in Molly's TikTok clips, including one where she asks her mum to say the word "criminal" but a struggling Kerry can only say "crimmul".

Molly is not the only of Kerry's daughters to have inherited her singing genes - Heidi, who Kerry shares with ex Mark Croft, starred on The Voice UK back in 2020.

During the lockdown, Molly was unable to come back from Ireland to visit her mother for some time due to travel restrictions, and Kerry found the distance difficult.

Writing in her column for New magazine, Kerry revealed what it was finally like to welcome her eldest home when Molly returned for a surprise visit.

Kerry penned: "She knocked on the door downstairs and then came in and stood in the living room.

"I went to answer the door and she was behind me! I couldn't stop screaming - it was amazing.

"She was missing her mum and her siblings. I love having her home."

This year, Molly was forced to put rumours to bed that she had applied for Love Island, after she jokingly said in an Instagram comment that she planned to.

Speaking on Loose Women alongside her famous mum, Molly confirmed: "No, I’m definitely not going on Love Island. I’ll leave the reality TV to my mum."

She added that she was focusing on school and was considering attending university.

During the same interview, Kerry insisted she and her children should never be judged for her past mistakes or her current work on OnlyFans, where she has made millions selling saucy snaps.

"Whether your mum’s a lollipop lady or a lawyer, it doesn’t matter. You shouldn’t be judging anybody," said Kerry.

"What upsets me more than anything is the fact that my kids will be forever scrutinised or be brought down because of my past mistakes – that had nothing to do with my children.

"That is the cross that I have to bear for the rest of my life, and that kills me."

Holding back tears, she added: "And when you are constantly getting it thrown in your face, it is like, ‘How am I supposed to move on with my life if you are going to keep bringing it up all the time?’

"They bring it up into my kid’s faces as well. They are great kids. I have done an amazing job with my kids."

Molly played a big part in Ryan's proposal to Kerry last year, with the couple set to tie the knot in the coming months.

"Ryan is really close to all of Kerry’s kids so he made sure he involved them before asking for Kerry’s hand in marriage," a source told OK!.

"Heidi and DJ helped Ryan pick out the ring while Molly and Lilly-Sue both loved it once he showed it to them."

And Kerry also has a hand in Molly's love life, admitting she pushed her to sign up to the dating app she created, called Marnii.

She told MailOnline : "I've told Molly and Lilly they've already signed up for it. Molly's 20 this year and Lilly's 18 so I think people forget Molly and Lilly are grown women now."

"I'm not asking to go on there just to s**g about, if that's what they want to do then that's what they want to do as long as they're b****y safe about it.

"I'm like, 'Get on there go find love, get out there get dating', of course!

"I may have forced them to sign up," she joked.

On her birthday, Kerry admitted she was sorely missing Molly.

Posting a photo with her other children during her birthday dinner on Sunday, Kerry wrote: "Had so much fun at my birthday dinner last night!!!"

But Molly was not forgotten, she added: "Wasn’t the same without my Molly there but so super proud of my family".

Molly has wished her mother a happy birthday on social media with touching messages alongside beautiful photos of the pair.

"Happy birthday to my favourite woman ever," she wrote next to the beaming snaps.

"The most beautiful. I miss you and I can't wait to see you."
