Kerry Katona's child truancy case dropped because of 'new evidence'

Kerry Katona's child truancy court case has been dropped at the last minute after new evidence was submitted.

The 39-year-old singer and reality star was due in Brighton Magistrates’ Court today charged with one count of failing to ensure her child was sent to school regularly.

The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, didn’t go to school between October 31 and November 28 2018.

Katona, of Crowborough, East Sussex, had pleaded not guilty at a pre-trial hearing on July 31 this year.

Defending Katona, Jason La Corbiniere said at the time there was no dispute that the child in question didn’t attend school, but said it was due to illness.

Medical evidence was submitted which led to the case being dropped.

District Judge Teresa Szagun blasted Katona for failing to turn in her evidence before the 11th hour.
She told the court that she was only notified that the case was no longer proceeding this morning.

“I have no option but to dismiss the matter."
