Kerry Katona reveals secret cancer scare as she urges fans to get checked

Kerry Katona today opened up a cancer scare that had her believing "This is it."

Mum-of-five Kerry was chatting to Steph McGovern on today's Steph's Packed Lunch as she appealed to viewers to check themselves for lumps and bumps, and to get checked at the hospital.

She also expressed concern that people weren't seeking out professional advice out of fear of the coronavirus.

Kerry at first dismissed it when a fan pointed out a lump in her armpit in photographs from a recent shoot.

But she noticed it later on in the shower.

Emotional Kerry recalled thinking paramedics would tell her she had months to live, as well as coming out of the shower to cry to fiancé Ryan Mahoney.

It was Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding's breast cancer diagnosis last year that compelled Kerry to act and get checked.

"It was so overwhelming that I thought 'this is it.'" she said.

Thankfully, when doctors checked her they found the lump wasn't cancerous.

"I went with my other half and they wouldn't let Ryan in," Kerry told, "It was the most horrific, scariest moment of my life."

After doctors told her it wasn't cancerous, she was overcome with feelings of relief.

"I just sat there crying and I realised the importance of one's life," Kerry remarked.

And she told that she was concerned that cancer cases aren't being diagnosed as frequently during the pandemic as people are frightened to go near hospitals.

"It's not just the coronavirus that's killing people," she said. "Please get yourself checked."

Steph's Packed Lunch airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
