Kerry Katona had lots of kids so they 'have each other' when she dies

Kerry Katona might be well known for her singing career as part of 90s group Atomic Kitten.

But for the singer and television personality, one of her proudest achievements is also being a mother to her five children - Molly, 19, and Lilly-Sue, 18 - who she has with her ex-husband Brian McFadden - Heidi, 14, and Maxwell, 13, with former spouse Mark Croft, and Dylan-Jorge, seven, with her late husband George Kay, who tragically passed away in July 2019.

And now she has revealed just why she decided to have such a big family - as it means "they have each other" when she dies.

"I've had kids so they will all have each other when they grow up. And if anything happens to me, they have each other," she told Ulrika Jonsson for The Sun newspaper about the reason behind having a large brood.

Kerry is now loved up with fiancé Ryan Mahoney and whilst she feels it would be "selfish" for her to have another child, she has confessed she would definitely add to her family for Ryan, if he wanted one.

She said: "It would be selfish of me to have another child. But I would do it for Ryan."

"So I'm freezing my eggs and we will see what happens."

The couple met on a dating app three years ago and Kerry also revealed she "interviewed" him on their first date.

"The balance of power lies with me. I interviewed him on our first date. I wanted to make sure he was going to be suitable for me and my life," she recalled of their first meeting.

The 40-year-old singer admits she spoils her kids rotten.

She confessed: "Not so much Molly and Lilly but the other three.

"When I was with George and I went through all the abuse and stuff, I feel like I’ve over-compensated and they want for nothing, and I’ve made a rod for my own back there, especially Heidi. I’ve over-compensated for the mistakes I’ve made in the past.

"The abuse my kids get because I’m their mum, ‘Your mum’s a cokehead, your mum’s on OnlyFans, your mum’s this, your mum’s that.'"

She remembers one incident with Heidi, where she asked for a new pen for her iPad when the dog chewed it, and it was then that Kerry realised she has "gone too far" with her youngest kids.

She said: "I bought our Heidi the new iPad with a pen for her birthday and I was away working and she texted me, ‘Mum, can I have a new pen? The dog chewed it.’ I was like, 'No.'

"But the fact she thought that was OK just to do that shows I’ve gone too far with them. They want for nothing and that’s my own fault. I’ve got nobody to blame but myself. But they’re loved."
